Following the
SOFA project, HANDSTAND's recent
international theatre projects included:
In collaboration with Merseyside
Young People's Theatre (now relaunched as FUSE) we were working on The Mole and the Owl, a
family show with music and extensive participatory
activity for children, based on the popular American
novel by Charles Duffie. The show was planned to premiere in 2006.
Initial R&D work has been funded by North West Arts
Board, through the Regional Arts Lottery Programme.
In November 2002, as part of collaboration with York Theatre Royal on the piece, we recently worked for a
week with their resident acting company on sections of the draft script
and music, followed by a presentation, as
part of YTR's Saturday morning storytelling theatre
events.
We visited
Charles Duffie in Los Angeles in Autumn 2003, to 'nail
down' the first draft of the stage play.
Since
then he's been writing away................but is not anywhere near
completion yet - so we're not sure if and when the show will be
produced.......................
